NEW GRADUATE
My baby has graduated high school. He did well his senior year. Worked really hard. Completed his senior project on Organic Gardening. Took his VOCATS and EOC's and did well. Marched in a line with his classmates to Pomp and Circumstance, shook hands and grabbed that diploma and grinned his boyish mellow easy going grin. Wow! Where did the time go? It seems like only yesterday, I was reading bedtime stories to my two young boys. Snuggling up to a good book, and not letting me get away with a short chapter. I miss those days. But the time has come to move on. College around the corner, new beginnings ahead. All good. Just keep repeating. All good. Oh and don't forget to breathe.

Late Night Musings
Our family has been recycling for a long time over 15 years. Most of that time, we have also been composting. Each new house we've lived in, we've set aside room for a compost pile.
My oldest son and I have been turning our compost pile regularly since July. I got a late start this year and had let everything get overgrown. Working full-time as a teachers assistant, I got very involved in my job, even bringing work home, volunteering for special events. What we all do in this profession. It was easy to get carried away when I was doing something I loved. So, yes, the garden suffered. Weeding of the flower beds wasn't happening. And so the compost pile was left to its own devices. But I was busy elsewhere.
Then, I lost my job. Letter in the mail on a Saturday. Still had two weeks left of school. Last ones hired, first ones let go. Deep budget cuts in education in North Carolina ....... doesn't soften the blow. Doesn't make it hurt any less ...
Anyhow, with our composting, we got a late start, but we're right on schedule now. We're turning over the old, letting some fresh air in, moistening new thoughts as we go. And now I have more time to spend with my son.
